Ugadi, the traditional New Year’s Day celebrated across, is derived from Sanskrit yuga (age) and aadi (beginning) and denotes the beginning of a new age. People prepare a special meal that must include pachadi, a festive dish that combines sweet, sour, salty and bitter flavors, a reminder that one must accept all kinds of experiences in the year ahead. The day is considered very auspicious as it is believed that Lord Brahma had created the universe on this day, and it also marks the beginning of the Satyayug.
